E-Tip:
Be Ready To Go
Make sure you have a To Go Kit on hand in case you have to evacuate. Your kit should include: water, food, battery-powered radio and flashlight with extra batteries, first-aid supplies, change of clothing, blanket or sleeping bag, wrench or pliers, whistle, dust mask, plastic sheeting & duct tape, trash bags, local map, a manual can opener for canned food, and special items including medication for infants, older individuals, or individuals with disabilities and other special needs. Keep these items in an easy to carry container such as a covered trash container, a large backpack or a duffle bag.
Picnic
The CERT Picnic Is THIS Weekend!

Please don't make us eat all those summer sausages and brownies by ourselves (ohh, and lemon bars!). Beyond the delicious food, we hope you'll come out and meet your neighbors and fellow CERT graduates and find out about what other CERT teams are doing and how they got started. We'll also be presenting our Community Emergency Preparedness Plan and having a raffle for some pretty cool disaster preparedness supplies. We don't know about you, but we're excited! And did we mention the lemon bars?
Call 458-5002 to RSVP...we need to make sure we have enough lemon bars.

 NPM Sans OES
Planning is a daily part of our routine. We plan our summer vacations, weekend activities, grocery store visits, children's schedules, and daily tasks. And, without a doubt, endless lists often follow. But there is one particular list that deserves to be checked twice - and it's not the list you make in December. We're talking about reviewing your emergency preparedness checklist and developing an emergency preparedness plan for your family.

September is National Preparedness Month (NPM) and a good reminder that we all have a responsibility in protecting ourselves, our families, and our communities. Emergencies will happen, but taking action now can help us minimize the impact they will have on our lives.

This month, it is recommended for everyone to take important preparedness steps including:
  - Being Informed about the emergencies
    and their appropriate responses,
  - Making a Family Emergency Plan,
  - Getiing an Emergency Supply Kit, and
  - Getting involved in community efforts.

For more information on what you can do, visit the
National Preparedness Month website.
Get Ready 1000th 1000th Person Trained In Get Ready
The City of San Rafael and SR OES recognized the 1000th person to have gone through the Get Ready disaster preparedness course, Therese Brown, by presenting a resolution to Therese Monday night at the City Council meeting. Our awesome volunteer instructors were also acknowledged at the meeting and each was presented with resolution that spoke to their dedication to the program, to their community and helping get the word out about the importance of disaster preparedness. Thanks guys!

Therese Brown is a manager at Ceramic Tile in San Rafael, where the owners of Ceramic Tile, Steve and Cathy Cerami, take an active role in disaster preparedness; have emergency supplies on hand for all of their employees, including enough food and water for 5 days. Knowing the importance of being prepared they called our office to host a private Get Ready class for their employees.

To have trained over 1,000 people since only last September demonstrates how successful the program is and how committed the San Rafael residents are to getting prepared. Even with the success we have had, it is important for us to continue to promote and develop a disaster resilient San Rafael through the continued emphasis on disaster preparedness.

Skills In Da' Hood
Ever wondered who in your neighborhood has been through a CERT course? It'd be helpful to know as you establish your CERT teams. We've created a CERT Release of Contact Information Form for CERT graduates to fill out so others may contact those in their neighborhood. The information is self-provided and if you are open to being contacted by others, we're happy to pass on that information in the method preferred. All you need to do is fill out the form and send it back to the office. We hope that it will make setting up the CERT teams easier - neighbors helping neighbors!
